Driver Bio: Steve B.

Steve Bogan next to his company Peterbilt. Truck number 758.

About Steve:

Steve B. recently celebrated his 7 year anniversary with Daniel Mullins Trucking on May 23th, 2023. He’s known by his coworkers as the life of the party and full of stories to tell, and is eager to tell them. He is a company mentor for new drivers & provides drivers with key training that attributes to the continued success of Daniel Mullins Trucking. Funny enough, his father was a truck driver, he is a truck driver and now his son has joined the team and drives alongside his father. When asked about his best memory with the company, he chose friendship. That itsself sums up the kind & hard working nature of Steve Bogan. When Steve isn’t moving aggregate for Daniel Mullins Trucking. you can find him on horseback & enjoying the outdoors.

All right. So first of all, can you tell us your name, age, and where you're from?

Steve B. I'm 60 years old, and I live in the Center Hill, Florida.

What originally got you into trucking?

I'm a second generation. My father was an over the road truck driver my whole entire life. I remember going with him from the time I was about five years old up until the time I was about 12 when he passed away.

and so kind of born and raised in a truck.

I remember going up to the Blue Ridge Mountains with him.

That's beautiful. That's some great memories right there. What made you choose Daniel Mullins Trucking?

Um, I worked at a previous job for 35 plus years, and, uh, when I decided, you know, the family had sold that company, it was time for me to look for something to do. I started checking, talking to individual drivers, and would ask them, how long have you been there? What do you think of the company? Uh, you know, what’s your insight and he came out on top by far, really.

And the quality of his equipment was bar none. Yeah. I mean, he had the nicest trucks on the road and when you would go out and look at some of the other trucking companies that were local, which I wanted to be, was a local, everybody else seemed to have trucks that you always saw behind a wrecker.

You know, and if it ain't rolling down the road, it ain't making me money & It ain't making him money.

So how was your first experience & what was your first experience with Daniel Mullins Trucking?

Great. It was like I was greeted almost like a family, never met any of the people before. The recruiter that I had at the time that I met with, um, did the little orientation deal pre-hire. Um, his name was Jeremy. And, uh, I mean, he was just like, we had known each other for three or four or five years. I mean, we just struck the conversation off.

And then as I came down here and met the people down here and met Danny personally, it was like that family feeling.

Everybody, everybody talked to everybody respectfully. And that's what I believe is that you talk and treat somebody in the way you want to be treated.

Right. You know what I mean? And, you know, Danny's uh, Danny's done a really great job with what he started with to where he is now. And it doesn't affect him as a person when he speaks to you. I'll call him on the phone or he'll call me and we'll just chit chat. And it's not, you know, always about work. It’s you know, how's your day going? What's going on with you? How's the family where at other places you go, you're just an employee number.

Everything Danny has ever told me or promised me that was gonna happen happened a hundred percent. He's always, always kept his word, always been honest.

How would you describe your overall time at Daniel Mullins Trucking?

Everything? hmm.. It really couldn’t be easier.

I mean, if you're self-motivated and you don't need a babysitter to wait until you get outta bed or out the door, you're self-sufficient then It's a breeze. No problem. Yeah. You gotta be able to answer to your mistakes, and you have to be man enough to admit when you make mistakes. Yeah. And other than that, I mean, really, you just do what you're supposed to do and what you're asked to do.

You know, some of these guys you hear talking about, oh, well, this happened or that happened. Well, the reason it happened is because you were off doing something you weren’t supposed to be doing.

and that's their biggest thing is safety, you know? and obliging by the customer's rules and regulations on their sites.

What are some of your best memories at Daniel Mullins Trucking?

<laugh> where do I start, probably friendship. Okay. I mean, that's one of my best memories, the guys that I've met here that I'm still friends with that no longer work here. Um, you know, still stay in touch with 'em, talk to 'em. I mean, the whole picture of everything has been a great memory to me.

I mean, everything. I mean, from new trucks to new trailers to going to new places and, you know, and, the Christmas parties are off the hook.

Your son works here too, right? Can you tell me about that? Did he drive with you like you did with your father?

He rode up with me on the ranch and on the ranch we had blueberries, we had cattle, we hauled cattle, we hauled the blueberries, hauled equipment for him, you know, and he started out actually baling hay with me when he was about 10 years old. Driving a big, huge 42, 50 John Deere dual wheel tractor driving, driving through 16 foot gates.

And then he asked me a couple times, you know, dad, what do you think I should do. I said, son, you know, your grandpa was a truck driver & I'm a truck driver. If you want to see the world or see the United States, go get your CDL because you're going to get paid to see the United States, and you may never get that option to ever do that again. So go out on the road, get paid to do it. You might find another state, which he did. He lived in Georgia. He lived in Tennessee and then he met his high school sweetheart. Yeah. And they had a kid together and he decided he wanted to find a local job. And I said, well, come to work at Mullins. And, I talked to Danny about it and Danny made it happen.

That's amazing. Okay. And then, so just wrapping up real quick, is there anything else that you'd like to share with others looking to start a career here at Danny Mullins Trucking?

Just remember if the wheels ain't turning, you ain't making no money. <laugh>. I'm serious. I mean, you gotta, you, like I said before, you gotta be self-motivated and you gotta be able to get out of bed and go, it might be nine, 10 o'clock at night. It might be two or three o'clock tomorrow morning. Yeah. And you gotta be able to calculate how long it takes to get from the yard to the loading spot.

Yeah. I show up because when you show up on time, it reflects on all of us, and when you show up late, it reflects in, in a very bad way. I mean, some things ain't foreseeable like traffic or mechanical issues. But, always try to be comfortable and be on time and try to reflect a positive presence to the people you're around when you're in your game.

Thank you so much for your Time Steve.
